something scary ist wahrscheinlich eines der repräsentativsten beispiele für den belgischen new beat, als sich das genre zum hard beat wandelte, und stammt von einer der schlüsselfiguren in der explosion der frühen belgischen rave-szene, rembert de smet. schon in den ersten sekunden des tracks wird der hörer mit einer der wohl unvergesslichsten acid-basslinien des new beat konfrontiert, die das menschliche ohr je erreicht haben. sehr direkt und charakteristisch für ein genre, das aus studioexperimenten zu einer zeit hervorging, als sich chicago acid etablierte und bereits das vereinigte königreich kontaminierte.
